Welcome
A member of the Kirby Bellars Group of Artists, Nicola exhibits regularly around the region and further afield. Her work is currently shown at the Morven Gallery in the Outer Hebrides, the most westerly gallery in the UK. A prizewinner at exhibitions, Nicola was also shortlisted in the 2008 Artist of the Year competition run by the Society of All Artists.
Her subject matter is mainly landscapes, especially coastal scenes, executed with a strong sense of individuality. This contemporary treatment of traditional subjects is a recurring theme, with adventurous use of materials and emphasis on texture and colour. She also enjoys equestrian subjects, and has recently joined the Society of Equestrian Artists.
“My aim with painting is to try to avoid the literal and find my own way of representing the subject. I work mainly in watercolour as I enjoy its spontaneity, and like to allow it to dictate or suggest form. I work on location and refer later to sketches and photographs. I aim for clarity and freedom in the end product, and for impact through use of simple design.”
