Burnmouth on the Scottish Borders is an active fishing community with a strong sense of history and community. To visitors it has a timeless and remote atmosphere, all the more remarkable given its proximity to the A1 (about a mile). This painting shows the white cottages of Partanhall, the most northerly community within four Lower Burnmouth. I have tried to capture the stillness and timelessness of the scene with the use of a simple palette and treatment of the subject.
