This painting is strongly textured, and includes collage, texture medium, watercolour and pastel. The terrain of east Harris is extremely rugged, but looking closely there is of course wonderful softness in the landscape too. The cottage shown is one of the many tiny crofts that are scattered over the wild south eastern coast of Harris, and by focussing on texture I wanted to emphasise the contrasts between the strong structural elements and the softer landscape features.
